TurboGrafx 16, also known as PC Engine (Turbo Grafx 16) – the first 16-bit console that was released in October 30, 1987 in Japan by NEC. TurboGrafx 16 was really a new generation system with stunning performance at that time, and special cartridges “HuCards”. PC Engine was extremely popular in Japan, dozens of times more than the Famicom. With its advanced graphics, the console dominated the Japanese market. Two years later, PC Engine started to be released in United States and there it was called TurboGrafx 16. NEC also was the first on the market, who started to release games on CDs, in which you could play using a special device – TurboGrafx CD. The console was even improved in Japan, however, only additional memory was added.
TurboGrafx 16 or just TG16 is a paradise for fans of shooters. Games such as: Blazing Lazers, Super Star Soldier, Parodius, Salamander, R-Type and Soldier Blade are the best of the genre. However, the amount of role-playing games was low and the best representatives of this genre were generally available only on CDs and mostly in Japanese language. Racing games were rare, however the best for TG16 were: Chase HQ, Final Lap Twin and a series of MotoRoader. With the arrival of CD-R drives and audio compression formats such as MP3 and OGG, on the internet began to appear CD-versions of games, characterized by excellent quality.
