Epoch Super Cassette Vision is a Japanese console, which was the ancestor of Cassette Vision. The gaming console appeared on the market in 1984, the year after the Famicom. And although shape of the console is reminiscent of the 70s, it is still the third-generation gaming console. Despite the common design, Super Cassette Vision had some innovations – for example, for the first time the game cartridges were equipped with built-in memory on a battery to save records and users’ created levels (yes, there were games with the level editor!).
Super Cassette Vision was a good console and sold well in Japan (at the price of 15,000 yen), also about 30 games were developed specifically for it. However, later, the Japanese market was fulfilled by Nintendo 8-bits consoles which trampled the Super Cassette Vision sales. Anyway, Supper Cassette Vision was able to escape to European market and merit some popularity there, especially in France. For a couple of years, until the Nintendo NES reached the Europe. In 1985 Epoch released a special Epoch Super Cassette Vision for girls. The same hardware, but in a pink housing. It was the last console released by the Epoch Company.
Epoch Super Cassette Vision roms games are now available for free download, so you can play them with your kids and friends on your computer.
